Eastertown.
The purpose of this website is to enable neighbours to keep in touch with matters that affect the hamlet from time to time. We hope that you will check in periodically to see what is going on and even offer to contribute your own material that others may find to be of interest.
The Eastertown hamlet is part of Lympsham Village.
Further information regarding the village can be seen by clicking the link at the top of this page.
The quiet location owes its existence to major road improvements some nine decades ago.
The 1919 Ordnance Survey map (Green border) shows the main road south from Weston passing Bleadon Hill, crossing the River Axe, then on to the current Lympsham Crossroads. (The Crescent, Hobbs Boat entrance and Boat Lane, all show up as loops of the original road.)
The old road turned left through Eastertown. This section was removed from the main route when the road was upgraded during in the 1920s. That was known as the “Turnpike era” when it was redesignated as the A370, shown on the 1946 map. (Yellow border)
The residents of some 50 or so dwellings around the Eastertown loop, enjoy rural views of grass meadows and the nearby Mendip Hills. It also hosts some farming and business enterprises from side roads but through traffic is very limited.
